The logo represents the previously mentioned \u2018Llanero\u2019, a traditional Venezuelan cattle herder roaming the grasslands of the country. \r\n\r\nThe Pampero Rum Industry itself was born in 1938 by Luis Manuel Toro and Alejandro Hernandez, and was an important moment in Latin culture. \r\nIt all began in a district of Caracas, Quinta Crespo, in an understated but colonial residence. There, Luis Manuel Toro and Alejandro Hernandez created rum and fruit wines in the technically challenged circumstances that were typical of Venezuela at the time. \r\n\r\nA forward thinking brand\u2026 \r\n\r\nUnusually for the time Hernandez was a \u2018forward thinker\u2019, who built homes for Pampero\u2019s rural and urban employees. The intention was to break with what he himself had called \u201ctraditional selfishness of the national industry\u201d, as until then there had been very little precedent in this kind of social consciousness amongst the private sector in Venezuela. Pampero Industries began a new stage in its history in 1966, when Hernandez sold his shares of the company to the Tamayo Group. Under Fernando Tamayo\u2019s leadership, the management concentrated on solving the financial problems that the company was facing, solidifying the industrialization of the production process and consolidating its position in the national rum market. Hence, the management\u2019s decision to focus their efforts only on Pampero Especial and Ron A\u00f1ejo Aniversario, removing everything else which was a difficult moment and a risky decision. \r\nThe strategy taken on by Gustavo Tamayo exceeded all expectation, and by 1977 Pampero had achieved record sales. New bottling equipment was bought; the production process was modernized and modern bottling warehouses and ageing cellars were constructed. \r\nPampero set the standard for rum production in Venezuela, and was proudly the first rum to be legally accredited \u2018Anejo\u2019 (aged), by the Venezuelan government. *","APR_Title_Pampero Rum Production":"Pampero Rum Production","APR_Content_Pampero Rum Production":"The ground to the barrel\u2026\r\nThe home of Pampero\u2019s distillery is a place called \u2018La Miel\u2019, meaning \u2018honey\u2019, and is located in western Venezuela. \r\nThe temperature gap of 6-8 \u00b0C between day and night  in Venezuela allows the sugar cane plant to produce a higher level of sugar. This higher sugar content creates a cleaner, better quality of alcohol and is a key differentiator between Pampero and rums produced in other countries. \r\n\r\nThe harvesting of sugar cane takes place as close to the ground as possible. In some places, the fields are torched with fire first to clean away dead leaves and drive out snakes. If the farm is on hilly ground, the cane is usually cut by hand using a machete. The plant re-generates by sending out new shoots or \u2018ratoons\u2019 from the base of the ground stalks. \r\n\r\nAt the mill, the cane is chopped and passed through a series of rollers and grinders that squeeze the juice or \u2018virgin honey\u2019 out from the stems. The brownish-black liquid that remains is known as light molasses. After a second boiling, the molasses becomes darker and thicker. This is known as \u2018black treacle\u2019 molasses. The third and final boiling gives \u2018Blackstrap\u2019 molasses \u2013 the wonderful ingredient from which rum is made. It is very thick, dark, and sticky, plus contains lots of the original impurities of the sugar. This process uses the action of yeast on molasses to create alcohol. \r\nThe quality of the water is a very important factor in the taste of the rum, as its mineral content will affect the final rum quality. Venezuela is rich in fresh water sources and Pampero has its own natural spring water source within the distillery. The excess rum was stored in oak casks which were also used to transport the rum on ships back to Britain, Spain and France.
